  • Oil consumption going down

I bought my XJ in the late fall of 1999. First long trip was to Arkansas for the rally in 2000. Bike surprised me by using a quart of oil every 300 miles or so. Since then I've run Shell Rotella and changed oil every 3K miles or less. Last year I ran a can of SeaFoam through the gas tank, adding about an ounce per gallon per the instructions on the can.

Last Friday I completed a 1,545 trip frm Prescott, Arizona to Rifle, Colorado with a few sight-seeing side trips. Much of the mileage was superslab, but several hundred miles were two-lane country roads.

Used less than a half-quart of oil the entire trip. Bike had less than 20K on it when I got it, now has about 52K. Seems the more I run it the better it goes!
So plan is to go as aften as possible.

Just an added note...I will be moving from Arizona to Colorado over the next two weeks, so will have only sporatic time to check this site. More than that, I will need to find a new ISP, so links to photos on my current ISP's server will probably fail some time in June.

    Keep on riding.

Have rented a tiny place in Rifle, west of Glenwood Springs, right off I-70. Looking for work, so went cheap rent until we get settled. Up side is that I'll have some time to ride between jobs.

Photo in previous post is actually from the Lasal Mountain Loop near Moab, Utah.
