I would check the ignition coils with an ohmmeter. Specs and instructions are in the Clymer manual.
One of the coils does 1-4, the other does 2-3, so it would make sense that one of them might be bad.
Thinking about making the jump to some good aftermarket coils, myself.79 XS1100SF
