  • splitting the case

I have removed all the bolts per the manual and all the external components I could see that might hold the two halves together and I still can't get the halves to split. Only one side will even attempt to part, and I do not want to mar the gasket surface by prying on it. I have beat the crap out of it with a rubber mallet and succeded only in tearing up my rubber mallet. Even thought about upgrading to a BFH, but talked myself out of it. Help please!

    Hey there Tank,

I've never split my cases, but after reviewing the manual, a few points to double check come to mind. On the gear shift side, they show a special oil tube that is held in place with 3 torx nuts and is secured to the upper and lower halves of the case, did you remove that?? Also, have you removed the oil filter cover, there are two bolts inside that cover. Also under the crankcase breather cover, they talk about bolt #32 hidden in there!? And three other bolts within/under the main oil pan?! The book mentions the bolts are numbered up to 34 but there are 2 number 11's, an A and B, so you should have 35 total bolts, count them, and if you don't have that many, then you've missed some somewhere!? HTH, Good luck!

      Stuck crankcases

      Tank -

Always been a forgotten bolt when this has happend to me. As Top-Cat says, the ones in the sump / oilpump area are often overlooked.

      Good luck

OK, there are some bolts in there, as others said.
The easiest way to get em out is by removing the oil pump.

And remember... the crank stays on the UPPER half of the cases.

Took me 2 hours, a nights sleep and another half an hour to figure it out.
