XJ1100 GPS mount?

Hey gang,

I picked up a Garmin Nuvi 660 on my local craigslist and am not entirely sure how to mount it on our rectangular bars.

I contacted MountGuys (http://www.MountGuys.com/) and they're recommending a "clutch mount" which is actually a Goldwing app.

I'm frankly thinking a windshield mount is not a bad idea, even fine with drilling holes in the windshield.

What have you done?

I just got a nuvi 755T and installed a RAM mount using the round handlebar area on clutch side.

I looked at the "mountguy" mounts but could never find a picture other than the front view so I could see how the attachment and swivels were made. It's half the $ of a RAM mount but without seeing the whole thing I didn't want to risk it.
I'm extremely happy with the RAM mount, very sturdy, very adjustable, very well made.

RAM mounts are the way to go. I have never lost the GPS off my dirt bike while thrashing around in the desert. Once you get the cradle it is as simple as getting an additional ball to mount to another bike, boat, ect....

I'm considering a gps in the near future myself to fit my XJ, and was trying to figure out what to do if your riding along on a long trip, and hit a sudden downpour to keep your gps from being ruined.
Also theft. What do you guys suggest? It is pricey, but might be worth it.

Hey XJOK2PLAY,

That weatherproof mount looks formidable and highly protective.

My plan, if it rains that hard (rare in New Mexico), is to pop the GPS, drop it into its slip-case, then into one of the saddle-bags & always carry it off the bike whenever I'm not on it.

I still haven't gotten a power adapter for the bike (for the GPS) so I need to charge it with AC or in the car.

Another option for rain, mentioned by someone on a local group, is electrical tape on the side with the power connectors.

I guess I'll have to get along like the "old days" without one. Read the map under the canopy while fueling and hope I can remember till next stop.
A lighter rain I may try placing it in my map pocket on the tank bag. I'm still able to work the gps screen through the vinyl map cover on the bag.
I'll be removing it to keep it secure at all times.
That waterproof mount looks nice and a lock too hmmmmmmmm
