    Hi There,
    New to the forum.
    Just bought a 82 XJ 1100 Maxim.
Are the bearings the same as the XS11?
If so, put me down for one, and can you ship it to the UK please?
    I would be really grateful.

Will make sure, thanks. But this conversion will only happen somewhere in December. At this moment I cannot afford that.

Make sure he installs a grease seal to match. You don't want that bearing slinging it's grease and going dry.

OK, here is what I was told.

SKF (Bearing manufacturer here in SA) made a Needle Bearing similar to what the XS uses but slightly bigger. (The guy's words exact words was "A ball hair thicker") The take the wheel off and machine the inner (Wheel) to match the outer (Bearing) and fit it in. He will try and get me the SKF bearing number and give it to me. Maybe you guys can trace it on your side. Will make life a lot easier for a lot of us.

A close one would be Consolidated #NAS-20. 20mm inner, 42mm outer, 20mm long.

If they could bore the hub to 42mm it might work, not sure how much meat is in there. The length would be 3mm short, but that might not make much of a difference in the scheme of things.

Had a look at the service manual picture of the rear wheel bearings. Cant figure out what they do, but cant be that bigga job if they can take it in in the morning and I can have it back before close of day the same day.

Will go fish for information tomorrow and drop some notes here tomorrow night.

Not sure what all that involves, but I can guarantee you here in the USA to have a machine shop do that work would cost a heck of a lot more than $61 US. I doubt you could get the machinist to dream up the method for that let alone do it.

Honestly, havn't got the foggiest. Was told it can be done. Info comes from BD racing (Johannesburg) Told me I can drop it of in the morning and by closing and R700 later have it with a localized bearing fitted. Apparently machined to fit the new bearing. I was there about two weeks ago when the rear wheel started twitching in the corners. I need to stop there for some GSXR parts tomorrow. Will see if I can get more details on it.

Will let you know what the guy tells me.

Will have to pass the offer then. Would be cheaper over here to machine the wheel and fit a different more localized bearing.

    Thanks for your efforts though.

Randy, I'm in South Africa. Work out a price for me. I have a twitch on my rear wheel already, so is on my shopping list.

just remember $50 is over R500 over here. Squeeze a bit if you can
