  • rear shocks

I've been told my rear shocks are leaking when I took my new bike in to get inspected. I was wondering what my options were at this point. They told me I had to replace the parts, so I've looked around in the forums here and happened to see some on partsnmore as well.

I'm just looking for a quick and hopefully inexpensive fix here. I don't necessarily want an upgrade and I do not want to lower the bike. Any ideas for a newbie?

I just replaced mine with a set from Mikesxs.com they are the same length as the originals & under $100 for brand new. From what I had on the bike - rusted springs etc these are a cheap fix and work way better than the originals. If you want a set of used ones Andreas can probably get you a pair - just look in the used parts section, you will see him there & highlight his name to be able to send him a pm (private message) asking for the part. - Dan

      Hey Joey,

Yes, the PNM and MIKESXS ones are the same company, and are inexpensive yet effective repairs. I think someone even posted about them on JCW bike section, and with free shipping?? I've had them on my 81SH for 8 years now.

Dunno if this would pass, but I have drilled a small hole in the shocks on some of my old beater cars and filled them up with oil from a squirt bottle. Some times it worked for a week, sometimes on other cars for a month. When it starts bouncing again, just take the little plug out and squirt moire oil in.

Of course, you wouldn't want ot do this with air shocks or nitrogen charged shocks.

Where did you have it inspected and why?

In missouri they require an inspection every 2 years but I have never had them look at the shocks.

No required inspection here in ID afaik. I picked the bike up from a guy who had it in storage for a few years. Since I dont know what I am doing, I payed someone to look it over. Now I have a handy list of problems and part numbers to start from.
