I am pretty sure you are  on the right track Craz.  Everything I have read up on says the mains only affect the top 1/8 of the range, and everything else just squeezes it down from there. I dont think we get the needles all the way up at full throttle until 5-6k rpm even at full throttle.
Maybe thats why the dynojet kit works so well...?
