  • Throttle response

Ok I've read every thing I can find. The bike runs great idle threw red line any gear. But when I rev it up to 8500 let off shift and apply full throttle immediately it hesitates for 1 sec before it starts to rev again. If I roll the throttle back on it's fine or if I hold the throttle open and speed shift it's good as well.I watched topcatgr's youtube carb videos and he didn't seem to have this problem. Can I do something to improve this or am I expecting to much from cv carbs?

sounds like you could be running a bit rich
with the mains, or maybe a blocked/dirty air filter.
any mods done to the bike? stock air box?

Hey ok I know every ones pulling their bikes out of the shed and trying to go for a ride. Then we notice a problem so we post a thread.I think many of us are asking what's wrong with my bike and posting threads before we even look at all the info in the tech, maintenance and repair tips.Or try to figure out the problem our selves. It's ok to post fixes as well as problems. Now that being said someone please help me with this problem I posted. For some reason I feel like mine is more important. Just kidding the weather has been really bad here and I'm getting super grumpy. Glad some of us a getting out to ride! Terry

Pete's questions seem logical. Do you have answers to those? It may help the gurus narrow it down for you.

Hey Terry, Honestly, I would not know where to start from with all the mods on that machine. My only thought is that if it takes a second for it to get enough fuel to react when you hit the throttle, then it might be running a bit lean. Either that or you might have a slight vacuum leak? Just guessing to give you somthing to look into.

With all the mods it maybe thinks it has a turbo too and you are XSperiencing 'pseudo-turbo lag'

Split second lag is because our carbs dont have an accellerator pump, so when you open the throttle quickly there is a bit off lag from the rush of air trying to draw fuel.

Now if its an actual bonafide full second or more, then you might look into plugs if they arent new or some other secondary ignition system problem, since that usually fails under load.

With all that high performance stuff, it could simply be inertia keeping the air and fuel from flowing toward the engine under such heavy accelleration. Do you leave tracers like the starship enterprize going into warp 9?

                  "What was that?"

                  "That was Spaceball 1!"

                  "Holy s@@t! They've gone plaid!"

The cams may be effecting vacuum and not allowing the slides to respond quick enough. I would thing that the dynojet kit would have addressed this but that's where I would start looking, the vac. slide springs. Dyno may have lighter springs that you could try.

                      Hey Terry,
                      Morning to you,

nothing to be sorry for, might be winter coming on,
but we get to ride all year round :-)

The reason i suggested main jets, blocked air filter a way
of checking main jets is to hard throttle to 8-8500
and then back off suddenly to 6000, if the bike stumbles on decelartion the jets are usually a bit rich, if the bike increases in revs its running lean.

Im running dj kits in mine, the stage 3 has really large mains 138, im running dj128mains
with pods and and fairly open 4-1 exhaust. Even with the cam mods you have the stage 3 could b a it 2 big.

dj 140's.I think I have the mains right but it's certainly easy enough to test as you suggest Pete.I'm going to make sure that I have all carb settings 100 % right. Then I think I'm going to contact dyno tech support as Pat suggested.I think you guys are onto something. It does seem almost like the slides aren't responding quickly enough. Thanks every one Terry

Well thought it might be time to update this thread.Since my last post I've been playing and tweaking. Here goes 136 mains,3rd slot from top on needle,2 1/2 turns idle mixture screws.I also trimmed slide springs to 4 3/4 in.I still have a very slight skip 6000-7000 in 1st and 2nd but when I hit 3rd it's like she has an after burner. She no longer hesitates when I shift gears.I've never felt anything like it.I should have measured my arms before I went riding tonight. I think they're longer now.I think I'm finally almost there! Thanks for all the help every one. Terry PS I should also mention I installed a set of MikesXS green coils.
