Master Cylinders

Finished going through the brakes on the 80G. Dis-assembled all 3 calipers, cleaned pistons and calipers. Rear master cylinder was fairly clean. Front master cylinder was another story, didn't work, had good fluid in the resevoir, emptied it and removed it and found why it didn't work. The entire bore was full of this crap.

That looks like a delicious soup. Just in time for dinner too! Sorry for not being more helpful. Is is a liquid like normal brake fluid, or more gooey? If it's the gooey you may take a plastic disposable spoon and scoop it out as a start.

Richard - Man does that thing look nasty. You may have the record for the spoogiest spooge hole . I'd take it off the bike, get what you can out of it as per Big's suggestion, dissassemble the entire unit and go to work on it with brake parts cleaner and a tooth brush. I'd be wondering how much of that crud made it into the brake lines and calipers too.

I ended up taking it off. Dumped it out. Finally got the plunger out and it was full of the same crap. Rebuilt it, cleaned the housing up and shot it with some paint. Fortunately none of that crap got into the brake lines, it was all between the 2 plunger rubbers. Got a handfull a brake now!

Wonder if someone mixed Dot3/4 and Dot 5 fluid? I read in the tech tips or somewhere on XS11 that the two types will form a goo like that.
