???? Never used them either, and I have done complete rebuilds.. heads and all. I never have checked.. but I'm hoping they'll make good orings for the seal between my scuba tank and regulator lines.. lol.

There's only one oring I can think of right off hand that they may fit. When you have the cases split, there's one around an oil gallery feed tube here...

But that's just ONE and I don't have a clue if it's the right size or not.

I had them left over in my kit too, along with the big red o-rings. They go in the bottom of the engine somewhere, but as I didn't go that deep I don't know for sure. The fiche shows an o-ring on the dowel pin towards the center of the cases (the one Tod identified above), but doesn't show it on the other dowels. I think I had eight or ten of them left over. That kit is still the best deal, even if you don't use all the parts - the head gasket alone is $150 at Bikebandit!
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

        Hey fellas,

There are 8 valves, perhaps they are valve guide O-rings, which most of us don't need to or bother replacing!? THere's also a small O-ring between the Oil Pump and case! JAT!?

I think you nailed it, TC. Yamaha part number 93210-11313-00 looks pretty much like 'em, and the quantity is about right.

If you have an Athena gasket set then you have 12 small black o-rings and 4 large red o-rings. The large red ones definately go around the bottom of each cylinder to keep oil from seeping up between the cylinder sleeve and the cylinder case. The base gasket alone does not seal this area and there were o-rings here the first time I cracked open my motor.

The 12 black o-rings??? Well here is my theory. First, they are the wrong size for the two inside the motor (oil gallery supply between the case halves and the one under the oil pump). But, there are 12 cylinder/head studs. I think they are intended to go one around each stud between the case and the cylinder although, none were there (or anywhere) from the factory on my motor.

Even though they all say 'complete gasket set' you will need to make a gasket for the middle drive case and the crankcase breather cover.

Tad - take a look at the fiche, particularly at the valve guides - shows the o-rings. Pretty sure TC was right, - 8 of them are for the valve guides. Which leaves 4 in question. Maybe they just put them in the kit to mess with guys like us .

                O-rings

There's an o-ring in the oil pump, and also one on the bottom of the oil filler plug. There's also an o-ring on the cam chain tensioner bolt and the clutch adjusting screw. There are also o-rings on the oil galley plugs. That's all I can think of right off hand...

There's also a couple of them on the mainshaft bearing holder. That's the one next to the starter on the left side of the bike...

Yes, I do see those o-rings now. But on the other hand, perhaps you are right, maybe they throw a generic handfull in just to make the set look more complete since none of them really include all the parts needed.

When doing a project, aren't you always supposed to have a couple of parts left over? Maybe thats what they are for.
