Fender and sidecover fit

does anybody know if the front fender and battery cover from a 80 1100g will fit my 81 special ?

I have never tried and looking at the parts side by side on the web I would say no. You can compare for yourself at http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx

NO, the fender on the Special is TALLER than a Standard. If by battery cover you are talking about the side cover, then probably no as well. I don't have one of the newer bikes, but I think the side covers for the Specials are almost different for each year. I DO know the Standard uses a different shape and the top holes are different.

Hi brokenarrow,
neither of them will be a straight bolt-on swap. As the Special's front axle is on the front of the fork slider and the Standard's is underneath it the Standard fender will be too far back to align with the Special's front wheel. You could cut'n'weld the support plates to make it fit if you had no better alternative.
I have made the wrong sidecover fit on my XS11SG by hogging out the slots into holes. Again, any sidecover is better than no sidecover. OK, the stock left cover and the orphan right cover don't match but who can see both sides of a bike at the same time?

parts swap

thanks guys found a parts bike on c-list which was to be a 81 special after he sent pic's thought it was a 78 or9 but ended up a 80 standard oh well. the front fender isn't bad just some chrome wear from a bag the p o had on there, but the left side cover is a problem found a locking tab to to reattach to the cover and lost the darn thing [ crs] I'll find one or away
