      Hi Duane,
luckily when I bought a proper seat to replace the KQHB uglything it had them on it. But what a less than optimum system it is.
You could use the search function to look for a recent string about replacing that device with a quick release latch from a bicycle.

Duane - I've got a couple of the slotted mounts with their spacers, but I don't have the bolts. You could probably use appropriate sized carriage bolts. The mounts came off a standard seat, but according to the fiche they're the same on a special. Yamaha part # 2H7-24738-00-00.

Depending on what you are missing, you can improvise form the hardware store. One of my bolts broke off and I just used a dremel to cut the welds off the bolt, popped it out, got a replacement and JB Welded it into place. The welds just keep it form turning. Might be tough to find that long nut though.

              Hi Duane.

I was hoping John told you about that since I forgot to tell you. Honestly forgot all about it until this post. Let me get in touch with Russ. With all those parts bikes Bob Jones had, I'm sure we can get you set back up if you want it back the way it was.

If I remember right, it's just that barrel nut, washer and lock washer that's missing isn't it?

I, too, really want to do the quick release seat mod. Gotta finish the MS project first though.

With the way that plate attached to the seat is on the 81, it seems like you could install the hook part that attaches to the XJ seat, then the quick releases mount to the frame. Any reason you couldn't use this system? (Though I haven't really taken a look as to how the recepticle that recieves the hook is mounted to the frame.)

                    Well... someone told him anyway...
Last I saw.. it was still politically correct to refer to a married couple as Mr. AND Mrs. John Wilmot for eg. So... John told him, but apparently it was MRS. John that told him!

I did the same thing, only with a Bridgeport, a 3/8 solid carbide endmill, and a TiG. Might have been overkill.
