  • Possible parts bike

I have a chance to pick up what Im told is a "83 Yamaha 1100 Midnite"

It's rolling frame with no tank or motor/tranny.
It comes with extra parts that are:

gold sissy bar, full stock exhaust, a fender, wiring harness...and several other nic nacs.

Im not that familiar w/ these bikes but what all would/wouldn't work on my 80 standard?

Wiring harness I could use, and the fenders are painted black so I could paint to match my bike. What about the exhaust? If its factory dual exhaust like he says, wouldn't it bolt right up?

The rest I could offer here

Hmmm...83 would make it a Canadian XJ Maxim I think. So not sure the exhaust would bolt up to an XS. Also make it a very very rare thing from what I have read on here if it is a midnight. Stock midnight XS exhaust is like a holy grail from what I have read.

An 1100 Midnight Maxim is like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness Monster. We've heard of them, but nobody seems to have actually seen one. If it is truly an 83 model.. I would suspect that it would not be an 1100. They made midnight 650's, 750's, and 850's. Kind of hard to tell the difference if you don't know what you're looking at.

There were no 1100 Maxims in 1983 in the U.S.... unless it was just a leftover from stock 82 that never got tagged until 83?

I'm thinking it is more like a Virago.I think they came out in 1983 or maybe later.

If I post a picture of the frame would that help identify it?

From what i can tell-and you could tell me-Is there a drum on the rear for brakes? Is it a shaft drive or chain drive?

Looks like a drum to me. I asked questions about it also.

Asked vin #, shaft/chain, disk or drum rear

I can get the bike really really cheap, but its a 4 hour drive roundtrip.

If there is no VIN # anywhere on the bike what is to say that this bike was stolen and is being sold?Does it have a title?

He's selling it with a bill of sale.

Thats all you need in Arkansas if its an antique.

Im not necessarily worried about the frame, i figured I'd pass it on to someone if they wanted it.

I mainly want nit pick stuff... and i like the front fender shape.

I just want to know what it is so I know if I can use some of it.

I like the design in those wheels better than mine, other than them being gold. He has a sissy bar thats gold also, but not my style

If it has a drum back brake then it is not an XS11 or an XJ11. The suspension and such look painted as a midnight model along with the wheels and the swirlie wheels would be a later model. Did they make a midnight 650? in 83? Even the 850 had disc rear brakes.

Sorry for being so stupid on things.

I've ridden a few bikes, but this is my first bike I've owned and modified on my own. I'm still researching on what had what, and what fits what.

Any chance of the wheels and fender fitting my bike? If so I could repaint the wheels and fender and I'd pretty much have my money worth out of it.
