  • Your thoughts on bar end mirrors

Hey guys I've been thinking about getting bar end mirrors, but i am worried that they will stick out too much. I have stock handle bars and mirrors. Do you guys think that it will have a negative effect on lane splitting? My eyes are level with the stock mirrors.Would bar end mirrors be too low for me to use effectively?

Wow! You must be really short, or what you have are really tall mirrors. The placement of mirrors really doesn't matter, as long as you angle them right. IMO, the further out from center they get, the better view you have of directly behind you. As long as you are aware of your space, and your eyes remember where the mirrors are, they should be fine.

I had a CRG Hindsight LS (Lane Split) mirror on my Ducati Monster, and it was by far the best mirror I've used on a bike. There is no stalk to amplify vibration, so the view is tremendously clear. It is also hinged, and pops back to the original setting if bumped. They're pricey, but very well built and great looking. Do an internet search for Constructors Racing Group.

Yeah i'm short, only 5'4 1/2" I just looked up those CRG mirrors and they sound great. It looks like i will need the internal adapters for this installation. Anybody able to give me a brief explanation/instrucitons for mounting the internal adapters? I am only a part time DIY so everything feelsl ike it's going to be complicated to me. Also i've seen this on alot of cafe racer bikes, is it legal for us motorcycle riders to have just the one rear view mirror? I forget which side they are usually palced. Thanks for the replies guys I now feel that if i do get them it will be a big improvement over stock mirrors.

Depends on what state you're in. It looks like most states require both sides, but some only the left, and some not at all.

Korr-I have bar ends on my ZRX and they are very easy to install. On the XS you could push up the grips to allow you to mount the mirrors at the ends of the handlebars.Believe me when i put them on my ZRX i didn't think i would like them but they are really superior than the stock mirrors.

The CRG bar end mirrors are very nice, I also had a set, on a Moto Guzzi.

                http://centauro-owners.com/gallery/g...n/dscf0004.jpg

The adapters are only needed if you have no room to move your controls up about 1/2" and opt not to use bar ends.

The adapters just need to be inserted into the end of the handlebar and tightened with an allen wrench.

There are two models, one can be folded back and is spring loaded to return to it's original position, and one that stays in the position you set it. They also come in a 3 inch and a 2 inch version. They are convex and do take a little getting used to, because they reflect objects as closer than they appear in the mirrors (a smaller reflection)...but they have a wider field of view than a flat mirror. They will affect your bike's width by only about 3" on each side...(if you're lane splitting that close, you're a brave man). Your view to the rear will be unobtructed by elbows or shoulders (or wide passengers), and the view extends farther out to the side of the bike. That said... some people hate convex mirrors.

There are also nearly exact copies of the CRG design being made and imported now by several companies (one being Yana Shiki), which are a lot less expensive but seem to be of a comparable build quality. Do a search for bar end mirrors on Ebay and you will find them for less than half the price of CRG. I have a pair of them and am very satisfied with the quality and price.
They also come with the internal adaptors included, (which are extra for CRG).

I'm not saying anything bad at all about CRG...just letting you know what's available.

Thanks Guy you described exactly what I wanted to say.
I am one of those who HATE convex mirrors.....they are not bad just too different for me to cope with. I would not give up mirrors on both sides ...what you don't see can kill you

I love mine. They are some all aluminum ones off of ebay. They have really nice expanding fittings that go in the bar ends.

How do bar ends fit into throttle side

I would like to try them and bought some 7/8" bar mirrors but the throttle side has closed plastic...will I just cut that off?

Do I need a different type throttle grip?

I've cut off the throttle sleeve to run vibration dampers before. I would imagine it would work for bar end mirrors too. You may have to reposition the throttle sleeve depth to fine tune it though.
