They should be fine, but a bit pricey for me, so I used the Plasti-dip spray repair method.

If you could spin the diaphram are you saying it spun on the slide assembly? or spun in the carb? There is supposed to be a tab on the outer diameter that will match a space in the carb body top.
When dipping carbs, as others have stated before, watch you dont get your butterfly seals in it, they are hard to replace if they can be had and will cause vacuum leaks if the cleaner gets them.
Yeah, sounds like they are lean to me, stumble until warmed up, and then WOT stumble, running out of fuel.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

ok...mine do not move on the slide I know.
I meant the shaft seals on the butterflys, or whatever the real carb gurus talk about when they tell folks to not dip the butterflys I never took mine down that far.
Did you make sure both sets have the same jetting?Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

I've checked the Yamaha microfiche, and the part #s for the early 650 carbs...77 as well as the 79 are different than the ones for the 79XS11.
But I don't have a 650 bike/carb to truly verify this for the OTHER slide that is listed for the BS38 carbs.
I know folks have stated that all of our carbs were BS34's, just different series, but the slides ARE different sizes between the early and later ones, and the slides that Mikes and PNM offer are only for the later model carbs!

Might be better off finding a used bank, or getting a bank of later model XS11 carbs, not as fine tunable, but parts are more available?
T.C.
If I were to spend that kind of money, I might as well just replace with an after market set of carbs but I want to stay original.78 XS1100E Standard

Yeah it's not that hard but you have to be careful. The set I got off ebay had instructions.Get a small bottle of zippo lighter fluid to use for lubricant. Then I used a small screw driver to push the diaphragm into the slide.I marked where the notch was with a sharpie. Also it's a good idea to remove any burs from to screwdriver before you start. Well, the pros have a special press to pull the top plastic ring off.
Somewhere on this site is a description where he cut that top ring to get it off, but has no problems with it falling off after.Nice day, if it doesn't rain...
