AC voltage to headlight relay

maybe i'm not phrasing the question properly...

can anyone tell me what the voltage from the ALT should read, at the headlight relay connection?

I read 6.2 volts with a DC meter on my "F".

thats what the guy at the local shop thought it should be, about 6 volts. i got half that.
