  • Xcellerator build...

Been a while since I posted, and no I still haven't figured how to take more time for before and after pics, but here's a recap and update. Plus I get sick everytime I have to look at my last thread where I had a major glitch.

May 2008, $1000 46K miles. No clue about an XS11, but hey check out that handy-dandy lil' site I found called XS11.com!! What following, and what a bike!!!

After trekking to and back from work all summer, I garaged her for the fog season here in the central valley. I put a new Dunlop GT-501 on the front, new brake pads, surfaced the rotors, and rebuilt the forks.

I lowered the rear 1 1/2 inches with H-D Sportster shocks. I got some 12" ape hangers from a buddy at work. They are fun to make work with a Japanese bike But they just felt so good!

Bag bars from a 2003 V-Star 650 Classic. Bags will be on soon. I ebay'ed some H-D switches from a 97-06 Dyna. Thank goonies I'm an electrician. I'll share the schematic I made with anyone who's crazy enough to take this task on. Mating H-D switches to a Japanese wire harness was not meant to be. I do have to operate the turn signals manually though, I still need an H-D turn relay.

Took an LED hitch cover to use for the tail light. Not to visable in the day my buddy Dave says. It looks cool at night at least. Still no rear blinkers,

Scored a 79' XS11 Head light assy. Yep, those are the stock tail blinkers till I come up with something cool!

Yesterday, I went to my favorite junkyard and got some stuff to get her on the road. Found a H-D clutch lever and perch. I needed longer cables cause of the bars, so a 60" cable from a 80 Suzuki Elite works perfect. I got a 46" throttle cable, from a honda CBR still to install. A 32" brake line for the front brakes. Oh and to top it off, look at the seat I found! Looks like V-Star. A little saddle soap and we got on the road today!

Yeah, on the road today! I still need a Harley brake lever and reservior for the front, rear blinkers (never know when a cop in know is behind you) and I need to adjust the seat mounting a bit more. Needs more tilt to the back.

My buddy Dave, and I took her out for a 150 mile shake-down. Great news! I didn't forget to tighten anything and the rear brake stops me enought for now. Man is she comfy to ride!

I like the seat! The color even matches the paint! Definitely need to get that front brake working though. I would also suggest removing the passenger footpegs. They look kinda out of place with that seat. Since you already switched out the tail light for an LED, you might as well do LEDs for the turn signals too. Kills the auto-cancel, but might look better with your setup.

Didn't think about them rear pegs. Good call! But have an idea for a sissy seat to go right behind my seat, to fill a gap. Never know when you'll find a lady that needs disdressing...er' in distress! Got some blinkers from an R1, but i don't know.

Hey, i can't afford one so this is this next best thing...and more fun. I have @ $200 into it so far including the front tire.

Should'a seen the dude's face I passed yesterday, on his new cute little HD Rocker "C"! Don't know if was having a hard figuring what I was riding or he had heart burn from the $26 grand he just gave to Harley's bank. Probably both.

Sounds about right! I just didn't want it to resemble a gray police bike anymore!

That's funny, 'cause there was a thread last week where people were trying to make their bikes look MORE like police bikes! Including wearing white-capped helmets and using red and blue vent covers on the fairing.
Oh, and this being the "Next best thing" to a HD - you better bite your tongue.... and watch your back. There are plenty of people here who would STRONGLY disagree with you

                      Hey Krawler,

What we were saying is that the OEM bars you had on there were for a STANDARD XS11, the Specials used some taller and more pull back curved bars that look like they belong on a ROTOTILLER!! Are you saying that you put on 1" thick bars, or did you get 7/8" sized ape hangers?? Because, the Harley switches will be sized for the 1" bars, but will be too loose to fit a 7/8" bar!

Now I need to ask about HOW you did the resurfacing of the brake rotors??

Yeah, we highly recommend getting your front brakes working, they provide well over 60% of your braking force which you'll need to get your Harley Eater slowed back down after a blast!

Are the LED's in the tail light a fixed size or NUMBER, or can you mod it to put in different bulbs? There are brighter LEDs out there now than a few years ago. However with that small of a surface area for the lights to be exposed, visibility...being seen is definitely in question and a concern...no fun having some cage run up your back because they couldn't see your brake lights in the SUN!

The apes are 1 1/4" (1 inch at the neck and grips).

The rotors, though not supposed to be done, were done at the Do-it-your-self auto center on the Navy base where I work. And yep, that nickel put a hurt on that cutter!

Trying to Ebay an HD brake lever and reservior right now. Not looking good this week yet.

The tail lights are fixed LED's. It's temporary. I got my eye on a junkyard that has some classic cars....

Well, I can sit at a nice rake back, but my legs are nice & in line with the bike still, not all saddle sore like those Hurley guys. I don't have the abs for that drag bar look either.
