I am looking at MikesXS page and I was thinking of new controls and new rear shocks. Do you think these two things would be able to work on my xs1100? The shocks are the right length (close enough) and I'm sure I wiring could be modified. Right? Or is there any online store for the 1100 with decent prices? I have been all over ebay and for new stuff you can't beat his prices.

the switches should be fine....a lot of members have used the switches
I think there is a tech tip, up at the top under xs11 info, then tech tips, and then modifications
the shocks, I think so, but not sure

I have owned two xs650's in my time. One was 1978 and one was 1979. Both were XS specials. Currently I own a 1979 XS1100 "F" standard. One thing I would suggest when changing switches and such is to be aware of "year" differences. For example. My friend has a 1980 XS1100 "G" standard. While both bikes are very similar...his has features that are not on mine. Such as the hazard flashers. In regards to the shocks...they may be similar in mounting but "tuned" for different weights. The best way to be sure is to go to Yamaha's web site and look up the OEM part numbers for both models. Placing shocks from a lighter bike onto your 1100 may result in handling changes. Especially if you ride "two-up". Good luck and ride safe.

The Monza Styled shocks are the same series as what is listed on
www.partsnmore.com for the XS11, the 12+" size, but Mikes has shorter ones also...in case you were wanting to try to lower the rear a bit for better foot planting, but you will loose some ground clearance, and possibly have problems with both center and sidestands!
I have used the PNM ones, they are adequate for 1 up riding, I've done 2 up riding, but they can bottom out on a big dip/bump. The dampening affect was very good, I used to get the bucking bronco rise in the seat type of ride under accel with my old OEM's, but that went completely away with the new "cheap" shocks, so for a budget fix, they are decent.
PLEASE DO NOT WRITE/ASK MIKE if any of his parts will fit/work on an XS11, he doesn't know, doesn't care, and will THEN decide NOT to sell you the parts. Just ask here first, and then order them!

I was looking at these shocks from JC Whitney. The price seems right. Has anyone tried these?

THose are the same MONZA shocks that are on PNM. It has been 9 years since I did my rebuild, forgot that I had actually gotten THESE JCW ones, not the PNM, got them with the replacement bucket K/Q Travelcade fiberglass pan seat. See my reply above about performance on the XS11.

Thanks TC... They are the same.. and 20 bucks cheaper, but JCW has free shipping. And that is the price for a Pair... It's not clear until you get to checkout...When the horse is dead, dismount.

This would be a difference in the springs, not the shocks. If you need new springs, they would likely be soft, but if you just need the shock portion, they should work fine using 1100 springs.Nice day, if it doesn't rain...

XS650 interchange
I have four XS650s in my garage. It looks like the engineers that designed the XS650 and the XS1100 never spoke to one another, but had access to the same parts bins.
I just posted this elsewhere. I used an XS650 carburetor to replace the body of one on my XS1100. The carbs on the XS650SH are identical to those on my XS1100SG. There was plenty of dis assembly and reassembly involved to take one from a bank of two and install it on a bank of four.Marty (in Mississippi)
