  • Rear wheel help

putting the rear wheel back on my 81 special, have it together but have 1/8 " gap between the caliper torque plate and the swing arm, there is no axle spacer like on my 78, just a collar between the wheel and the caliper bracket, the gap doesn't seam right any ideas ?
    thanks

The gap is necessary for the rear brake to be self adjusting. It sorta floats. I think the taper on the axle holds stuff steady, or something like that....

The order of assembly (from left to right side):

    -castle nut
    -thick chrome washer
    -final drive
    -rear wheel w/ bearings, etc.
    -brake disc (mounted on wheel)
    -collar spacer (rides in wheel)
    -caliper mount bracket
    -brake plate thingy (techinical term)
    -right side swing arm

Again, the gap is supposed to be there.

Definitely. I knew off hand because I did the same thing two days ago! I was like "Wait a minute..."
