  • Single Carburator?

    Had a bright idea!

Has anyone ever attempted to run these bikes on a single carburator?
Thinking about making a manifold and giving it a try.
    Wadda ya think?

if you do can i recommend a small CFM Ford flat top 2BBL carb. These are very simple carbs with few moving piecies or adjustment. Just change the powervalve (which is external) every few years and you are good to go.

This is something that has crossed my gearhead mind over and over for years! Those carbs are made to draw in a downward direction so for optimum performance you'd need the carb in your Lap! I think it would suck (pun intended) Don't think about it just do it and keep us posted! HA HA! Garry

I seem to remember an intake manifold for the Honda inline 750 advertised in the 70's. It used an automotive 4bbl. No details left in my remaining brain cells, But I do remember an ad.

You can get side draft Mikuni or S&S carbs that are more than big enough and would be easy to hook up to your throttle cable. Making a manifold that will work wouldn’t be too hard. Making a manifold that would really perform might be another story.

One thing about it, you would cut the chances of having your carbs leak gas on your garage floor by 75%.

predator carbs are huge! Toyota tercels of the 87-88 vintage had a Varible Venturi carb on them. I would stay the H**L away from the VV carbs. Predtors are nice for drag racing, and do not have Idle circuits.

Why not something like the Holley "ProJection" TBI set-up?

Maybe you guys will think this is sick but for years I also wanted to make an intake to mount multiple sets of these carbs on a v-8 sort'a like a cross ram. I really do love these mikuni's! Funny I just read all the posts, printed them off and got my manuals and went to work! Sick thing to some of you guys would be that I didn't buy a single part! I was VERY careful taking them apart. I think it now runs great. Same jets (stock) and all with a Mac 4into 1 header. 2 1/2 turns on the idle mix screws seems ok,starts good, runs fine no stumbles and revs to the moon!!!!!!!!!!!Just like YAMAHA planned it that way. LOL Garry

I think that a small FI system like used on some of the smaller Nissans would work. I've been considering something like this in kit form for some of the larger Japanese bikes.

                            Hello,

Whatever carb you choose, make sure you can change jets easily. Jetting can actually be changed on some carbs from the outside. The Book "Motorcylce Turbocharging, Supercharging and Nitrous Oxide" has alot of discussion about various types of carbs. These books can often be found on Ebay.

                              useing single carb on XS-11

I think a single carb would work.Getting or makeing the in take would be the hard part.A outfit in the 70`s used to make two kinds of intakes for 750 Hondas. One with a single carb, other for two.I have it in my mess here some where but I`m afraid they are out of business. Might be wrong though. Good luck.Keep us up to date.
