I would think that the common sense approach would be not to try to dodge a bullet from a gun held against my forehead, just because some strangers online said it could be done. As for me I'll listen to the guys who build tires for a living.

I've have just never seenm, in 30+ years of riding, tires that were specifically front or back.

I have seen plenty that were unidirectional, but they could still be mounted front or back, you just mounted them backwards on the front. They usually have a direction arrow on BOTH sides, one for front mount and one for rear mount.

Of course, you're not going to put one of the modern 6" wide tires on the front, wouldn't fit anyways, but those tires are just for looks on the back too. It's fun following those and seeing the 3" contact patch in the middle only.

As for listening to the guys that make tires, how about the guys that say you need to change oil every 3000 miles, or the mfgs that tell you 195hp 350cuin V8s are awesome, or that 15mpg is all you really need or the razor guys that tell when the strip turns white you should change your blades?

People are great for imagining up all kinds of scenarios, but very short on actual research.

The idea that somehow the front and rear tires are made different is, frankly silly (racing notwithstanding). They BOTH have to handle the same amount of power, believe it or not.

No, because then I'd have to remount the tires backwards...
