  • Single filter intake

Has anyone seen this off of the XJbikes website? According to the results from that site it has aa similar intake volume to the stock airbox while allowing an easy removal of the carbs. The review stated that there was little need to rejet after some fine tuning since the intake volume was close. Not sure if the pic came up in the avitar field. I can't seem to get anything to post right. I buulit mine today. I hope to use the stock boots from the airbox on the new intake. On Xj the guy used rubber pvc connectors to mount.

Homemade pvc pipe and one small emgo air filter, seems pretty restrictive.

i reckon the 3rd cylinder would run leaner than the others
its taking air directly from the filter compared to the others, i personally dont like it.

Good looking motor... but from the carbs back... it looks like something Fred Sanford would put together from his scrap heap. Even THEY are trying to cover it up... lol.

I agree. I don't have any proof, but it sure looks awefully restrictive to me also.

It cant breath right. It my opinion, for what thats worth. That would supply less air than a stock airbox.
Also,I wonder how it sounds like that?I know my bike sounds way different with pods than with the airbox.

The single intake is in deed likely very close the the opening of the standard air box but the standard air box dumps that air into a single large air space where each carb can suck in the air it needs without competing with the carbs that are down stream so to speak. In any case I really don't find the re & re of the carbs on these bikes to be that big a deal even with the standard air box. After a few times the average person can do it in 15 minutes.

I didn't pay attention to the pic too much of the bike and I can't open that site here at work, but that is from the XJ site. If the bike is an XJ, the XJ carb remove and reinstall is totally different critter than the XS. I said in another thread recently.. removing the carbs on the XJ is equivelent to removing carbs on the XS if you were to leave the air box tightened up to where it doesn't move at all, and not drop the bottom side of the box off. Get in there and wrench and twist around on them and those expensive boots for a while to get them out... then realize they have to still go back in!

You can loosen every nut/bolt on the XJ air box and it still won't move.

If you want your XS airbox to come out easily, lose the top center bracket and whack the snorkel tube off 1" from it's base. I run both of mine like this and they breathe real well and come out in a flash.
