  • Where do all these hoses go?

So I've got the carbs and fuel tank on but cannot figure out where all the hoses and tubes go. Clymer b&w pics don't help much. I will be using pod filters.

Does anyone have a detailed diagram or photos so I can get everything back together and try to start her this weekend?

    Thanks.

No diagram, but maybe I can help.

    1. Lower T's between the carbs are your fuel lines. Attach to petcocks, larger nipple.
    2. Upper T's are vents, leave them open, do not plug.
    3. Small petcock nipples go to carb boot vacuum on 2+3
    4. Vac advance hose goes to the nipple on carb body #2
    5. Large crankcase breather hose to remain vented, maybe put a breather like this on it.

How far apart do you have the hoses? Did you leave them connected to the carbs? If so, the memory in the hoses should give you some idea of where they should plug back in. The diagrams in the manual are all I ever referred to to get it all back together.

        Phil,
Thanks for that. So it's o.k. to have unfiltered air going into the carbs per step 2?
Boot nipples on 1 and 4 should be plugged?

        CB,
The carbs were off the bike when I bought it so I have no reference.
I could kind of tell by the memory of the hoses but my big ham hands also have a hard time getting around in there.

It's ok to leave them open, but some prefer to run them both to a T fitting and then add on an inline fuel filter so no bugs, dirt, etc. enter. Boot nipples on 1 + 4, plugged. That above diagram is for the Special only.

Thanks for that. I do not recall seeing it in the Clymer.
Does that diagram show the "octopus" I've read about?
              My bike doesn't have one.

I have the manual and a different wiring diagram for the bike if you want it. If so just PM me so I can get your email.

That bracket is attached to the bolt that holds the air box in place under the seat. On mine the bolt goes through that bracket, then through the air box bracket, then into the frame. The tube is the middle drive vent I believe, and now I am wondering where mine is because it ain't on that bracket.

                        I hope you find it.
So the open end doesn't connect to anything?

                          It's a VENT

                          It VENTS to the atmosphere.

CC breather hose is a vent that plugs into the airbox. I was just checking.
                            Thanks again for the manual.

The CC breather plugs into the air box only because it is venting ..well..the crank case and therefore might have some exhaust gases with unburned fuel vapors so they can get recycled back to the engine. Of course, the middle drive will not have any such stuff in it, or at least it better not.
