HELP!!! I have an 1980 1100 model SG that is in need of new ignition coils. Problem is - when the bike warms up it feels like it's dropping 2 cylinders at idle or very low speeds. This condition is not always present. This condition goes away when I give it gas. It never happens when the bike is cold. Sometimes it's very hard to start when it's hot. I think I checked all that I can check as far as the ignition goes. I did repair the pickup coil wires when I first bought the bike. It had a very bad misfire throughout rpm range. the repair I made fixed this problem. The reason I think I need new coils is #1 & #4 coil ohms 1.5 on primary side. #2 & #3 coil ohms at 7.8 ohms at primary side. According to the repair manual 1 coil is good - the other is bad. My dilema is that I am unsure of which after market coils I should use. I have read pro's & con's of different makes of coils. Dyna's seem to be the better choice over Accels. One problem I have noticed on your web site - when other people have had same problems - no one has addressed the issue of the older XS 1100's using a factory installed ballist resistor in the ignition system to cut down the battery voltage to coils when the bike is run mode. How will this effect the replacement coils? Or can I by-pass the resistor and use the proper coils after I have made by-pass to resistor? And will this repair cause any other problems to ignition system? Or could it possibly damage anything in ignition system? Any and all help and answers will be GREATLY appreciated.
