Bike won't crank....

    ok checked all the wires and checked the timing and everything checks out. Bike sounds like it wants to fire but will soon backfire after a sign of slight hope. thanks again for any responses

      Have you done a compression check? You should have about 120 to 140 in every hole, but only 10% difference between the highest and lowest. If you only have 20 to 50 in one, you may need to check the valve clearance. As they wear, the valves will LOOSE clearance, and star to NOT CLOSE.

        yes compression checked out across all cylinders. 5lb difference was the biggest. Thinking about pulling the carbs back apart and seeing if something got clogged up.

          As you check the carbs, don't forget to check the vent system. The '78-'79 carbs use 4 "T" fittings on the carbs, the top 2 being vents and the bottom two are for fuel. If there is ANY blockage in the fuel or vent, the carbs won't work.
