  • Original price?

Ok, so I went today to get Donnie registered and plated and all. They apparently didn't have the XS11's in the system anymore which was an outrage to me but that's beside the point. They wanted to know what the motorcycle sold for originally when brand new in 1981. Anyone know? I guessed at $7500. Was I close?

Varnae - If you PM Steppenwolf he can probably tell you. Pretty sure he's had his since it was new. I'm guessing somewhere between 4 & 5K, but that's only a guess.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

I dont know about MSRP or any other countries pricing. Here in Alberta a 79SF was $4799.00 (CDN funds of course and who knows what the exchange rate was back then) and that was what I had to pay for it. I could not dicker em down as the specials were so popular. The Standards were slighty less but just a tad. Bout 2-300 bucks IIRC.

My 81 Venturer1100 was $5200, and if memory serves me correctly the 81 Special was $4200.

The new xs11 price was around $3,700 in 79-80. If you think about it, that's alot of years of service for a low low price. I wonder how the xs11 ranks all time in value and service vs cost. I know there are alot of little things that go wrong, but getting them back on the road doesn't ever take too much work.

As my signature states I bought my LG in 1980 and I paid $4200.00 for it. The SG was $3800.00. I know there was a slight increase in price in 1981 but not by much.

                      original price

1980 xs1100sg i paid $3300 . My buddy let me test drive his brand new xs850 triple & i had to have one. The dealer didn't have anymore but that 1100 sitting in the showroom on the centerstand doing 100 , that's it. I bought it in 1981 , 6 miles on the speedo ,so it sat in the showroom 1 year as a hangarqueen & they wanted to move it. $3800 was on the tag. I had to come back to pick it up though, they said the carbs had to be removed & degummed (hint - first encounter with a 4 carb bike ) . I signed the papers without even a testride & it's been with me for 28 years. Moving up from a cb360 to a freight train was a warping experience. Ed
