Ok I just went through the rectifier, rotor, and stator. the brown and white wires to the rotor were 3.4 ohms (good to the manual) and the stator wires were all .3 to .5 ohm (spec from manual are .4 ohm +/- 10%). Ok this is what Im confused about. The rectifier which I believe is a pack of diodes. I get a consistent reading in all the circuits going in one direction and open in the reverse direction. Now I know that is how a diode is supposed to check so am I right to believe the rectifier is ok? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

      help

hey jim you are correct diode allow current to go one way and not the other so if your getting good readings from the retifier the yes i would have to agree with you that it is good.it is important that you check all your grounds also were the retifier mounts on the bike make sure you clean any dirt or old paint away as it grounds to the frame did you ckeck alenator wires both ways cant remember if you said or not . rember it only takes one wire from the altenator to cause problems but if everything is ok as far as readings go then i would say that it is in good working condition. for a thirty year old bike.ome test i do is start the bike up take it to 2500rpm then i take my reading om the battery you should i beleive between 12.5 to 14.5 any where in between is good like the group said they did have a weak charging system to start with
