  • Fuse Box Issues

I know the XS11's are notorious for using the crappy fuse boxes that eventually go out, and now that I finally got my bike up and running (Thanks to Harry and Vince!) I've noticed mine's going out too. In fact, I have the headlight fuse held together with a zip tie right now, and I think that's even going out because my headlight and left turn signal stopped working this morning (right works fine, oddly enough).

Anyway, the connectors on the fuse box are pretty much shot. I tried to send an email to the person that made a replacement fuse box as listed in the tech forums, but the email bounced. Anyone know how I can go about getting one? I really don't know electrical and would like the easiest/closest to bolt-on replacement possible, if it exists.

    I have a '79 XS11 Special.

TC (TopCat) has them. He keeps a stock of a really nice replacement fuse box. Even I got one installed in less than three hours I think. Fits up nice and no worries about those stupid glass fuses that are hard to find anymore.

Send him a PM or if you have paypal, send him the buckazoids and he will mail it out PDQ. If you want to be really nice, you can send him an extra buck or so to help cover the cost of the site. It's $8 I think for the fuse box including the shipping. Follow the tech tip instructions on using shrink wrap and the 90 degree connectors and it will be a no brainer.

      Amen to that!
I just put mine in this weekend. Easy job.
I also replaced the master fuse with a single blade fuse block I picked up at Autozone for $3.
My bike ran and everything worked before, but as I was making the switch and taking a really close look I realized how vulnerable that box is to causing trouble. And mine was more corroded than it appeared at first glance.
TopCat was quick getting it to me BTW.

When I put mine in I used right-angle waterproof female spade connectors on the ends of the wires with a TC fuse box. The right-angle makes it a little easier to get your wires nice and neat. Looks like this...
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.
