Pulled over and disconnected my speedo on the way to work this morning when it zeroed out. If you have a Special that you are rebuilding, and want to know what your mileage will be once it's back on the road, I would be willing to trade you my 120mph speedo and non-working tach (you could use the needle from the tach to replace the one on the speedo that broke, no kidding, less than 100 miles ago ) for a working speedo and tach (I REALLY miss having a tach). I know it's a longshot, but I figured I'd throw the offer out there.

I don't know about the state you live in,but in NJ there was a guy in front of me that was getting his bike inspected. They check mileage and questioned him about his mileage on his bike.It seems that he somehow had less miles than what he had the previous year on the bike.Motor vehicle does not want any tampering or disconnecting of the speedo or they raise hell.I'm not saying that you did that so the actual mileage would not show, but be careful.Years ago i had problems with a bike and did not bother to get it inspected or insured for that year.Since i did not turn in the plates,i was legally obligated to pay back registration fees for the year i did not register it.The only way around that is to have a shop write a note stating that the bike had mechanical problems, but then again they want the plates surrendered or you face having your registration privileges revoked.1980 XS1100 SG

I think it would have to be a pretty savvy inspector to notice that this isn't the OEM 85mph speedo that these bikes came with. When I bought it a few years ago, there wasn't any sort of inspection required to transfer the title...Hi...my name is Mike, and I'm a lane-splitter.

I think one of the biggest things is people that carry classic/antique insurance and license plates.I know then that they look at mileage as you are not allowed to put a lot of mileage per year and are only supposed to take them vehicles out for shows and educational purposes only.1980 XS1100 SG
