And my Octy leak is around the seam, not through it, well, I never got that far to test that.
In my opinion, if your float needles leak, are not seating, you NEED to fix them anyway. The problem is bigger than just fuel flow when the bike is off, as it still floods the carb when the bike is running to. I know when mine leaked, my no 4 cylinder was smoking like an old diesel truck.

There is one more variable in this. My first attempt at fixing a petcock drip was to get rebuild kits from partsnmore. The diaphrams had plungers that were 1mm SHORTER than the OEM plunger. Of course, i didn't find this out until they leaked after reassembling If you still have a drip after doing all of the above and you find yourself taking the petcock apart again, check the plunger length against the original, just for kicks. And let us know what you find.
That's a sickening thought .... that's where I bought the repair kits and I think Garth did too ... saved the old stuff too so I'll measure it up and report later today.

Went to the well and picked up my spare tank. Took apart the fuel tap and measured the diaphram plunger .... sure enough little less than .040 shorter. So that's the way they still ship 'em, Randy. Sucks. Don't wanna' rant on PNM, but I've had less than satisfactory results with some other, but not all, of their parts as well so I'm not surprised ....
I then took a factory length good diaphram and replaced the tiny O-ring on the plunger, checked my spooge points and vacuum inlet for stoppage ... clear. I then stretched the spring a couple of millimeters ... the length when I took it out was .735. It did feel noticably stiffer when it put the cap back on.
Vac test ... rush ... drop ..........................drop .......dry. This also means that I must have peened the brass restrictor and rubber washer in there correctly too. So that answers that question.
NOW, here's the caveat .... the PNM repair on the other side works just as well .... WTF? Spring stretch? Dunno ... but I DO know I'm sick of messin' with it .... that's for damn sure... so I'm off to the barn to get this turkey on the road. Runnin' outa' time .... Carolina beckons...

Glad that worked for you. I did post about that problem a couple of years ago, guess it's lost deep in the archives, but it's good to get it out in the open again. BTW, that is the only problem I've had with partsnmore stuff.
I have never taken the octopus diaphragm apart, but does it have a conical shaped seat for the oring like the standard petcock? If the plunger is a bit too short, could a person compensate by installing a thicker Oring to compensate?

it runs ... pretty good too. Got some flooding issues still, but no big deal. I replaced the float needles with some that I copped offa' Prom a couple of yrs' ago. So I'll have to get on that ASAP but that's not a problem, really ... the thing sounds great except for the questionable factory exhaust ... gonna' try to save it if I can and as long as it doesn't cost a mint to do so. Have a chrome Kerker waiting the wings just in case ....
What I really want to know is how come I can't put the carbs on so they work the right way the FIRST f'in' time, eh?
