  • Throttle Lock

I installed a Harley Davidson throttle lock (Harley calls it a throttle friction adjustment screw) on my XS11. It works quite well, better than it does on the Harley. It wasn’t too hard to do and only cost a few bucks. I took some pics when I did it, so if anyone is interested I could try to post it in the forum or send it to someone who can post it.

I was going to try to attach a picture of it but the forum rules say I may not post attachments.

hey, go ahead and post a reasonable sized pic or two in this thread. We would love to see how it hooks up. THe ability to post pictures is one of the things that makes this forum so useful.

      Posting photos

      Bob:

It is possible to get a photo in this forum. Here is what you need to do.

You need to find a place to 'park' your photo. Most service providers give you some disk space on a server for your use. You might have to call them and get it set up, however. Password is usually the same as your e-mail account by default.

While on the phone to your ISP, get the address of the server used for file transfers. It will normally be something like FTP://www.ispname.net/yourid. This is where you will park your photo.

Now you need to transfer your photo to the server. Depending on which operating system your computer uses, the exact details vary. However, what you are looking for is an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program. Windows includes a program for file transfer. On my Mac I use a shareware program called Terminal, but others like Fetch are available at no charge.

When you fire up the FTP program it will provide places to enter the server's FTP address, your user ID, and password. Fill these in and connect to the server. When you are connected, follow the instructions in the program for selecting the photo. If the program asks you what format you want to use for the transfer, select "Raw". (Most programs no longer ask for this, but you might run into it with older programs such as Fetch.)

BTW, most people use .gif or .jpg formats for posting photos. I use .jpg myself. Keep the photos a reasonable size, not more than 3 or 4 inches hgh/wide. Try to keep size under 100K. Resolution of 144 Dots Per Inch (DPI) is fine. Photo will fit in window and not take a huge time to load for those people like me with a 26,400 dial-up connection......

Once you have the file transfered, make a note of the full address. It will be a URL, like http://www.ispname.net/yourid/imagename.jpg. Go the XS11.com and compose a message. At the top of the composing screen there is an IMG button. Click on this, type in the URL of your photo, then click OK. When you preview or post your message the photo will show up where you inserted the IMG command.

This sounds harder than it is. Once you have done one or two the process becomes second nature.

      Good luck!

          Throttle Lock

          Dude,
there are many good throttle locks available, please be careful playing around at the Hardley shop. You may get the idea it is OK to pay too much for a lot less.
