    XJ1100 rear air shocks

I can't find in the XS/XJ CD the information to dissamble the rear air shocks. There a couple of files that won't open and i think they might be in there. I want to take them apart to change or shorten the spring to lower the bike some. The tags on the side say " Dissambly requires special tools and knowledge" I am just lacking some of the knowledge.
I have tried to unscrew the top shock mount but it only turns, seems like the skock rod is turning with it, but there is no way I can see to hold it. Can anyone offer some tips? I don't really want to buy new shocks.

There are no springs in an air shock.

If you want to lower, let some air out.
Nice day, if it doesn't rain...
