I just got My bike out and was able to ride thelast 2 days. Both days I put about 10 miles on it before she just cut out. Hit the start button and turns over fine. After about 10 minutes she started back up and ran fine like nothing happened. the second day itwas night time when it happened. pulled the spark plug wire to #1 no spark the same with 2,3, and 4. turned over fine plenty of juice. took the tank off and moved the 4 wires over the coils and she fired right up! Somewhere here is the problem but have no clue what these 4 wires are or do! I could really use some help!

Check the fuse panel. If you still have the old glass fuse box, they can cause intermittent problems. Best to upgrade the panel to the blade type. Harness connectors on a 30 yr. old bike corrode up and cause problems too as well as the grounds.2H7 (79) owned since '89

I just got finished troubling shooting the same problem with my 80G. I would start it and let it run with the Starter Lever on full for 2 mins, put the lever in on 1/2 for 1-2 mins and then let the bike run for 5 mins. I would occasionally roll the throttle to clear the carbs. The bike would run perfectly and then shut down suddenly. Checked the wires on the pickup, all looked good, check the TDI all good, Checked the plugs grounded one at a time, no spark on any plug. Let the bike cool down and restarted. It ran through the same sequence shutting down after 5-7 minutes. A heat related problem, coils? don't think so as both coils failing at the same time is highly unlikely. Pull the pickup cover again. Started the bike again after cool down. Yanked on the full pickup cable where it goes through the back cover, and the bike stuttered and stopped. Pulled the cable away from the clamp on the underside where it ducks down around the case. Started the bike again and could not make it fail again. I have a wire in a sheath that goes open. That sheath is just about 2 inches away from the left exhaust pipe. Apparently I relieved the stress on the cable for now, but I have to find and repair that problem before I take the bike out.
The above story is indicative of the problems associated with that run from the TDI to the pickup. There is a need to check the wires all the way back as the schematic shows another plug in the cable with the four leads of the pickups going to the four pin plug on the TDI through another six pin plug.

There is a large plug up under the tank on the right side, that can have a tendency of unplugging itself when you work on the handle bars or remove the tank. I finally tied it together with a wire tie.Fastmover
