well i'am ready to paint the cases with dupli-color engine paint just wondering has any one put their clear over the color for more shine and protection if so how has it lasted and did it yellow over time? or would you just use straight color
    thanks

    Hey there Arrow,

I've seen a set of cases first primed and then painted with color. There is a product review in that forum regarding a clear that is designed for higher temps and not to yellow. However, with the clear on it, IF you get some dings from rocks and such that chip the paint, you could have harder time touching it up with the clear on it, vs. if it was just color!?

However, perhaps the clear would be a bit stronger and less apt to chip??
If you use a good gloss paint, then you probably wouldn't need the clear to shine it up. IF you use a flat paint, then you wouldn't necessarily want to put a clear over it because it would be like turning the flat into glossy!

The primer you NEED is called "self etching primer". It can be had in the green you see on aircraft, as well as the grey you are probably used to. A THIN coat will help the color stick, and keep the cases from oxidizing under the paint.

hey TC your right about stone chip repair so i think i will use straight color on the front of the cases and clear the top side of the cases for more protection especially when taken carbs on and off at least i could hand rub out any light scratches. and ray that primer does work good, but like carbs triple sand and triple clean
        thanks guys
