  • Need gas tank leak help

I was putting a krem kit in a maxim tank for my project bike when i noticed I have some little holes under the badge mounts. I put the krem in an it looks to have filled them fine. I was going to bondo over them anyway. Is there a gas proof filler I can put under the bondo for the long haul? I'm going to start a crazy paint job and don't want to have to start over in a month....Help
    I remember reading a thread about this...but I can't find it.

Try filling them with lead? or have it welded ( if you don't weld like me).

      Tank

Chopped fiberglass and resin will work just grind or sand good the area with 40 grit to remove the paint for good adhesion when glassing make sure you push out all the are bubbles out

        Hi XSlover,
Kreem is only one of the several makes of amateur-applicable gas tank sealing compounds that are on the market.
The general consensus is that all the other ones are better.
Me, I'd worry about the Kreem.

I repainted my tank last year, and no sooner got it mounted and found a leak underneath. Patched it with JB Weld (NOT JB Kwik Weld) on the outside of the tank. Doesn't take much. Like the old Brylcreem commercials - a little dab'l do ya. I also replaced the drain tube and JB Welded the replacement in. It's been that way nearly a year with no leaks. Make sure surfaces are clean and dry and allow adequate cure time.

I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Thanks, The krem is already in so, I'll be going with that. It's the only thing our local shops sell. I've used it on 3 other bikes and never had any trouble, I'm sure this will be the first. I'm going to let it setup for a few days and go from there. Thanks for the info..

XS - I used the Caswell Plating stuff on mine (ordered over the web http://www.caswellplating.com/aids/epoxygas.htm). Costs around $35 for the kit. It's an epoxy resin and it sets up like iron. But I'm sure if you prep the tank properly, apply it correctly, and allow sufficient cure time the kreem will work.

I found it very difficult to cover the front part of the tunnel once the stuff was in the tank. I've got another tank I'm getting ready to do, and this time when I initially pour it in the tank I'm going to elevate the rear of the tank and use a funnel with a tube on the end to get it on the tunnel first and then flow it around.

If you use the handful-of-screws method to knock the heavy stuff off the inside of the tank, have a small telescopic magnet handy. When I did my first tank I dropped a handful of drywall screws in with about a pint of laquer thinner and swished it around. Afterwards when I turned the tank upside down and shook it not one screw came back out. After a quick change of underwear I was able to fish them all out through the fuel level gauge opening. Probably a good idea to count the screws first also.
