  • Brakes seized

Hi there. I have got a xs11 hardtail chop project on the go. The front brakes are seized. The question i have is, how would i go about freeing them up? I have tried taking the calipers apart, but some of the bolts aint moving at all. Is this gunna be the right way to go about it? Also trying to take apart the rear caliper as well. Any help on freeing them up/ taking them apart would be helpful.

Remove the caliper from the bike, but leave the caliper connected to the hand lever, and pump it till the piston pops out. If the piston is not moving, try gripping the caliper with a big pair of channel-locks or some other clamping item, and squeeze the piston INTO the caliper. That will free it up in the cylinder. Then, pump it out of the caliper with the hand lever. Make sure the MC is clean and the spooge hole is cleaned out before putting it all back together.

Did not see if you have a std or special. First thing I would try is loosening up the banjo bolts on the calipers to release the fluid pressure. This should free them up. I would still remove them and clean the calipers up.

Fronts on specials have a nut on top to remove before you pull the mounting bolt from below. As to the rears, make sure you pull the screw in the back of the caliper to release it from the pads that stay on the wheel when you pull the caliper off. HTH

all my bits came to me in a box, so not all together. The front forks/wheel/brakes where all still together though, but all seized together.

Does the wheel mount to the forks right at the bottom of the forks or is it on the front side of the forks above the bottom of the forks?
