Hey WhoRide,
First you can't connect the PU coil wires directly to the igntion coil, because there isn't enough juice going thru it, and it doesn't work that way. The PU coils send pulses...on/off to the TCI, it then controls/switches the power that is running thru the Ignition coils, when it cuts the power, the magnetic field that is generated in the coil collapses, releasing the high power spark current thru the spark plug wires.
You've tested the PU coil resistance, and have a good reading. IIRC, you said you had the ignition coils connected to the grey triggering wire at the ignition coils, and both coils fired. The Orange wire is either not getting it's signal to the TCI, or the TCI isn't handling the signal, so that a triggering/on/off signal isn't being sent to the orange wire that goes to the ignition coil.
1: You've repaired PU coil wire breaks.
2: You've checked resistance on questionable PU coil, good.
3: IIRC, you've switched the PU coil wires/connectors going to the TCI so that the gray was plugged into the orange circuit, and you got spark out of the previously thought bad ignition coil/spark plugs, so both the TCI and the ignition coils are good.
4: That leaves problems with the Orange circuit, folks have accidentally swapped the (+) and (-) when doing their PU coil wire repairs, and that will keep it from working right with the TCI!? Following Randy's web site diagnostics you need to check to see if you see a switching current AT the TCI from the Orange circuit, and make sure that you are getting the power TO the PU coil thru the proper wire.

cdi ignitor box or trade for a wind jammer fairing
Ok so i am now at the cdi ignitor box. I took off the top and it looks likes TPO tried to do soldering on the top part of the board. Along with cracking the front of the board trying to get it out....
I have looked through the thread about going through and testing everything so i cant get buy the computer.
The funny thing is that only the orange wire to the coil was effected??!!
SO i guess iam in the market for another cdi ignitor box.
SO if anyone has an extra one laying around i will so kindly take it off your hands. I just saw one on ebay but it was going for about $80, and right now i just cant afford that.
OR maybe we can work something out. I do have the riding fairing with wind shield and light that i am not useing so maybe a trade?
IS there any way just to test the cdi ignitor box. By the looks in side i better get another one.

You have the 2H7 series TCI...it's not a CDI.
Randy our resident electronics GURU works on these, so you could contact him, perhaps email some photos of the damage so he can give you a better estimate of whehter he thinks he can fix it, vs. just getting a new one.
You can also build your own out of components for an automotive one, since your bike has the mechanical cent. and vac. adv. components, you just need the triggering device. There's a HOW TO in the MODS section of the tech tips, check it out!
Otherwise, post in the PARTS WANTED FORUM for a 2H7 box, you might get lucky??

Hmm...Well, you have a 1980 bike right? And the engine has what number on it?
Only the 81 model used the 4RO TCI from what I have read here, and my engine (81 model) is a 4RO series engine. So unless you had the model year of the bike wrong, or someone swapped out your engine somewhere along the way, you most likely should have the 2H7. It is the absence of the mech advance under the timing cover that corresponds to the TCI requirement. TC covered it very well in another similar thread that is current. I forget which one though. Perhaps the easiest way to tell (If no one has buggered with it) is to look under your timing cover (left side of engine) and see if there are screws holding the timing plate in place or some crazy looking fastener that there is no way to get a hold of. The later is indicative of the 81 or 4RO engine.Last edited by DGXSER; 03-09-2009, 01:07 AM.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

whoride,
I have an "extra" box, I think. Send me a PM, and we can talk about the price/fairing/firstborn or whatever. I can put it in the post office in the morning, and you can see if it works, and THEN we can talk details.Ray Matteis

My Final Post On this thread- Thank you everyone for you help!!!
I backed tracked my problem to the ignition unit. I thought that the coil was bad because of the no spark on plug 1 & 4. After replacing the coils and wires (with new plugs) with Mikesx, I still had the problem. I redid the wiring for the pick up coils and gapped them, Still had the problem. Changed out the fuse box because i could not think of anything else. I think it was TopCat that give me the thread did a complete check of the ignition system. Then to find out that i have been riding the bike only on 2 cylinders all this time because when i opened the top of the ignition unit TPO thought he knew what he was doing and tried some custom work in it. I just received my new ignition unit in the mail plugged it in and got spark to all four plugs and put the tank back on and it started right up.
My hard lesson learnedafter hours and hours of being completely lost)
I guess when you are having problems and you cant figure out why just do a visual inspection of the top of the circuit board of the ignition unit just to make sure everything looks right.
SIDE NOTE I REALLY LIKES THE NEW COILS AND THE NEW WIRES LOOK GREAT. This really make a huge Improvement.
