Will a back rest from a 79 special fit an 81 special?
    Ich habe dich nicht gefragt.

Honestly, I have no real idea, but something tells me the mounting holes don't match up the same, since the rear fender/seat are a bit different between those years.

      In my experience...

      Not without some modification...

The 81 seat has a cut out for the tailight assembly where the 79 is set down low on the fender...

I have the 81 seat... but a 79 fender... and as I recall, that was done so I could use the backrest/ luggage rack...

But then... I could be completely wrong about your set-up...

There is an issue of threaded holes in the rear of the frame, near the turn signals. There is a second threaded hole there on the 79 SF that isn't there on the 80-81, and in my experience with them is that you may need to drill the hole required for mounting of the rear of the sissybar/luggage rack.
