is there such a thing as a normal amount? just took my oil pan off tonight and there were a few shavings. bike has 21k and don't know if it's ever been apart before.
I would think so, due to the normal break-in process, they get trapped by the pump strainer and oil filter. I remember finding some on my strainer when I pulled mine apart at my 50+k rebuild. I forget why you're pulling your engine?? If you're doing a topend job, as long as you don't find any gauling(sp?) on your cam bearing caps and lobes, you should be okay!! I didn't rebuild my crankshaft or bearings, just put new pistons/rings and bored the jugs, seems to be running fine still!!!
