  • Replacing Fuse Box

Ok, I am no electrical guru...soo..the new 90 dgree clips from RS seem to be about like putting a hot air ballon on for pants..way to big for the wire but right size for the fuse box clips. Do I have the wrong thing or do I just mash them onto the wires and solder it best I can? How do you get the shrink wrap to go around the bend?

Thanks for any help for an ametuer electrical dude.

Not sure of the clips you are using, but if the wire seems too small for the crimp end, I usually double the wire up by stripping it longer and folding it in half before inserting it and crimping. If they are way too big, then I'd check to see if RS has a size clip for smaller guage wire. For the 90 degree bend, if possible, maybe the connector could be straightened a bit, heat shrink slipped over, and then bent back. JAT, HTH

For a 90 degree, might want to try a connector from RS like these...

Blue size should be ok, though yellow size would be too big, possibly red a bit too small.

        Thanks for the input Phil!!

I have the connectors like the ones shown in the tech tip, they come up to a barrel on top of the female plug. I wound up doubling up the wire like you suggested and crimping it tight, then soldering it in. I used the shrink wrap on the female connector and then electrical tape to "turn the corner".

Now I just need to get the fuses to put in.

Also, whne reconnecting the Aux, I assume the negative side just goes to a ground? Positive to the fuse.

Are you eliminating the single glass fuse for the aux hookup? I'm not 100% sure on doing that without tearing into it, as I left my aux. glass fuses intact when upgrading my fuse boxes.

Yes, I eliminated the glass aux fuse as well. The way it was connected was the positive came to one side of the fuse and the other side of the fuse went to an open terminal labeled positive. The negative or ground lead went to an open terminal marked negative. I took the positive lead to one side of the fuse and the negative I grounded to one of the screws mounting my fuse box.

I am considering eliminating the glass main fuse also. But that will wait for another day. Loaded the new fuses and checked it all out. Everything is working fine.

Yep, that sounds like a good idea. Glass fuses = electrical gremlins.
