Sidecover Interchange?

I'm still attempting to find all the parts I need for my '78E, and have found most of 'em with the exception of the plastic sidecovers. There's a pair on Ebay, but they're for a '80 but it looks like they could be made to fit. Now, as near as I can tell, the covers are nearly identical. I can see certain differences, such as the lack of the 'tab' at the upper edge (looks like simply a styling difference) and the round mounting holes on the left side cover (but I'd say it would be possible to cut the early slots into it). But I can't tell if the mounting tabs are the same. The left side looks good, but the right looks slightly different. Can anybody shed any light on this?

Side covers

80's are shaped different, mount different. You need 78 or 79. These are the only ones that fit without mods.

The Special covers won't fit a Standard, so I wouldn't bother with them. The 78-9 Standard covers have the mounting "slots" at the top, and the later models used the slots on one side and mounting "holes" on the other, IIRC. The way the bottom of the cover attaches should be the same for all years on the Standard. HTH
