  • Making a new loom

    Hi everyone.

Im just about to start making an xs1100 hardtail chop. I have a hardtailed frame and have got a bike-in-boxes coming to me in drips and drabs. The wiring loom has been chopped to pieces and looks nearly un-salvageable. I am planning on just making a new loom to make it all neat, tidy and to make sure it all works properly. I have managed to find a loom diagram on here already, but am after a bit more information from anyone who has done this before.

How much wire would i need? and how much in each colour etc?

How many and what connectors do i need?

Any other hints and tips that anyone with experience could offer would also be a great help.

I can't help with the xs specifics you'll need but I did re-build a wiring harness for my 73 Datsun car. I ordered a bunch of wire from a place called waytek. They've got reasonable prices and tons of different connectors. I used the old loom as a pattern for the new one by stretching the old one out on a sheet of plywood and then removing one wire at a time and replacing it with a new one.

If I had to do it again I'd recommend buying a loom from someplace like e-bay or the parts forum here unless you've got lots of time and some special needs as far as the wiring is concerned.
