• plasti dip spray or the dip kind?

hi all, I have the dreaded cracked carb boots, what i was wondering was has anyone tried the dip kind of the plasti dip for the boots or just the spray kind?
anyone with good results or should I just use the spray that some have used.

the boots are not cracked all the way through, but I want to try to stop the cracking before that happens.

dip or spray

Use the spray, couple lite coats will work wonders for looks. Haven't needed todo mine as they still R like new being indoors most of time. Used the spray on one of diaphram boots for very small pinhole. Spray left it shiny as before.

Dip kind

I have never used the spray on kind so I have nothing to compare too. I used the dip method when I did mine 10 or so years ago. It worked great. I just taped off the openings and run a wire thru the mount holes. When dry, I simply shaved the excess off with a razor knife. The tape kept everything form going where it should not have. It came out very smooth and quite thick. The added thickness was a minor annoyance so far as the hose clamps were concerned. They were a bit harder to get on, but worked good. I finally changed em out last year but they were still not cracking. I was just re-doing so many other things I thought what the heck.

"New boots and panties" (yes, I have that album)

I took some black RTV sealant and smeared a nice even coat over my boots. Filled in the cracks nicely.

I used the spray, the only can I could find in this whole town, we have about 10 different auto parts stores, Wal-mart, 2 Meijers, and several hardware stores.....

1 can, BRIGHT YELLOW.........

Some of the folks here may 'member the post, "Oh, Man is this
Ugly" or somethiong like that, the pic has long since been deleted,

But, black rust-o-leum hides the yellow well!

I too have done this fix. It works quite well and looks fairly good. Mine would look better if I had the ultra black instead of the greyish black stuff.

Thanks for the replies, After inspecting the boots they were pretty far gone and did have crakes all the way through on the last removal so I just ordered them on partsnmore website for $90 + $5 shipping, oh well at least I wont have to worry about them for some time now.

on second inspection after I removed the RTV I had used on them, there is no crack that goes all the way through, so I did coat them with spray Plasti-dip, and they look pretty good so I will take pics and sell them, once I get pics I'll post them.
