Hey Guys -
I just wanted to say thank you all for previous coil upgrade postings... a great help. I completed the XS650 coil upgrade (bypassed external resistor), along with Mike's yellow performance wires, and I am very happy with the results!
Prior to the switch, I was putting up with a good deal of skipping at lower rpm's and at idle, as well as a bouncy tach around 3-4k range. My bike now actually idles smoothly on all four cylinders - which my spark plugs really appreciate (were getting pretty sooty before from misfires).
I am running NGK 5k plug caps with non-resistor NGK plugs, with stock gap, but I believe I will experiment with opening them up a bit. Future plans include placement of a 1980 Vetter fairing (need to repair and paint it first), so I will have to make some changes to the cap/plug combo if I ever want to use a radio.... My IPOD was going crazy, 3 feet away, while doing a carb synch.
Again, thanks to everyone for all the great information about the coils - I would never have attempted the switch without the "how-to" postings...
Bobby
