If they've never been replaced before, I'd say you might need new friction clutch discs also.

I put new friction plates and new clutch springs into my clutch. It shifts like it was brand new now. If your friction plates are withing spec (nothing below 2.88mm), than you could probably get away with just getting 6 new springs, which are about $1.50 to $3 a piece. If not, than I would definitely get new friction plates as well. Talk to trbig, he found a great price on them, I think around $5 a piece. I have not tried the extra steel plate, but from the advice I was given, I would not recommend it over new f plates. The way I look at it is, I dont want to take the clutch cover off again if I dont have to, so I might as well replace the parts that wear out (springs and clutch plates) with new ones.

I used to think riding my bike was fun, but now I stomp my foot on the floor like a toddler when I cant ride my bike do to weather or responsibilities.

Oh yeah, if you really feel like giving your shift the grand tune up, put in a new shift lever return spring as well...thanks XSpastor..it's like 1979 all over again.

I had a similar problem last year so I finally broke down and spent $12 (I think) on a new set of heavy duty clutch springs. While I was in there I sanded the plates to remove the glazing. That made a HUGE difference and now these days I only get slippage from the clutch if I twist the throttle REALLY hard. I'm guessing my slippage would go away completely if I replaced the entire clutch pack and/or added an extra steel plate.
I know this, because Tyler knows this.
