    Think yer onto something ..

[QUOTEthe bad news is that I am at least one quart and as much as two high ][/QUOTE]

That has happened to me when the crankcase is over full ... usually gas that leaks into the oil ... makes the inside of the motor look black cuz no aluminum is showing through the sight glass. Once the level comes down, I bet your problem with the sight glass is over.

Like has been said ... check for gas in the oil.

smell the oil or try to light it
Or not! Well, maybe if you took some OUT of the bike and then try to light it on fire. Otherwise, I vote bad idea.

Unless it is a very small amount in a separate container, in or out of the bike I vote bad idea.

Oil is still flammable just harder to ignite, but will burn very hot and for a looong time. Thus the reason it makes a great torch. If there is fuel, it will light first and it will light the oil and you will have a great all night torch in your oil drainage pan until it melts and you get an oil fire across your garage. Then you get crowned the neighborhood Pep-Geiver.

Well, I never even imagined anyone silly enough to try to light it while its in the bike. Usually it can be smelled and if in doubt I dip a stick or something into the oil. Then I try to light that. If there is gas it will light quickly, oil takes quite a bit more to ignite. But yeah the way I wrote it looks stupid for sure.

Rasputin, I was certain you meant what you elaborated to do, however, I have no idea the experience level of some that may read this.

And we all have known someone who was just green enough to try it, and yes, in the bike.

Add some seafoam to the oil right before your next oil change.
