    Hey MO!

May we interest you in a couple of links, first one is in the Forums Maintenance, OIL section.

The second one is in the DROP DOWN MENUS at the top of the main home page, INFO/TECH TIPS/MAINTENANCE/OIL-Fluids.

Then a simple search for OIL or TYPE OIL, Synthetic, etc, will reveal MANY threads to help you pass the time in this cold winter weather!

There is a thread on here about DOT4 and DOT 5 brake fluid. Written or quoting an article by a brake fluid engineer IIRC. Definitely a good read and informative, but would not suggest DOT 5 use after reading it. Definitely states you do NOT want to mix them.

Of course, Aussie seems to have used it for a while with no problems. So inser the standard YMMV here.

            Omg!!!

People just can't HELP but state their preference on yet ANOTHER oil thread can they?? lol.

Couldn't we just revive one of the old oil threads with hmmm.. 100 pages or so already on it?

To put it bluntly, (since I'm usually so politically correct....) there are MULTIPLE brands of oil. You will find people with a preference for each brand AS WELL as a lengthy opinion as to why. MOST realize that you don't need the specialty "Motorcycle" labeled, high priced oil... but not all. MOST stay away from anything for the engine oil that says "Energy Conserving" on the little donut on the back of the bottle.. but not all. MOST stay away from the synthetics in the engine oil as it tends to make clutches slip.. but not all. Most DO use fully synthetic oil in everything else.

Bottom line.. Just keep oil in the thing . Use the brand of oil you like and figure out if your bike happens to like it. If you Still have more questions, here's just one thread on the subject you can read through...and learn a little about OCTANE as well..

Here in Oklahoma where the "Beer" is only 3.2%.. there's really not much difference between the two.

                    Hi Tod,
is the 3.2% a State mandated thing or what? I do remember British draft beer used to be only a touch stronger and have no fizz at all and be served at "cellar temperature" (55ºF) and it took 8 pints (Imperial 20 oz pints) to get a buzz on.
But that was meant as a thirst quencher for steelworkers.
My son brought home some bottles of "Specialty" imported beers that ran 7.5% and one was 9%. I've bought wine that had less.

                      Tod,
Interestingly enough, there isn't much more than 3.2% in any beer made in the USA. Even back in the day of 3.2 and 6% beer, the 3.2% had a little less than that and the 6% only had maybe 4%, it just was more than 3.2% so it got labeled the higher rating.

Watch, a beer thread will generate more heated discussion than the oil thread!

                            Slow Mo,

No one intended to belittle your question. Actually I think I asked a similar question myself a month ago or so, when I just got my 11 and joined the site. Got the same reply, and after researching online, I understand why. The subject has been beat to death many times over. For the people that have been on the site for years, it would certainly get old going over the same issues time and time again, when it is just opinion your asking for.

What oil is best? after researching and researching, I find it is like asking what beer is best. Now if you ask for what fluids to avoid, well, that was covered already here on this thread. Stay away from synthetics in the engine as the clutch is wet and may slip badly with synthetics. From what I have read, you may want to stay away from DOT 5 in our systems as it could cause problems if it mixes with 3 or 4, and really does no better in our systems. And the reasearch shows that MA rated oil seems to just be more expensive these days, use to be needed before we went to the 4 cylinder high rev engines in cars.

So read up on the hours of info available here on fluids that there is no need to take up storage banks repeating, nor could we duplicate all that has been offered by those brighter than me for sure, and make your own judgement. Then read the jokes and laugh a bit, smiles are like medicine!!
