  • XJ Carb adjustment?

There must be a thread here on a special tool that can bypass the YICS to adjust the carbs? I just can't find it.

    Can someone point me there?

(And I did check under Tech Tips ...)

    Thanks,

        caution on YICS tool

I made one following the directions. Everything was very easy. I sync'd the carbs then I adjusted the idle mixture screws using the ear tune method that I found here on the forum. Sync'd the carbs again and have the XJ purring better than it ever has. The problem came when I went to remove the YICS tool. The rubber had started to melt. It was sort of a goey mess. Some quick thinking by Vincer and the sacrifice of a gun cleaning brush from Russ79 and I believe that we got most of the melted rubber out of the yics galley.

I did use fuel line as was called for. It may have been that I took longer than most people to do the sync as I was doing the idle mixture screws as well but I don't think that you should have to play beat the clock when tuning your bike before your tool starts to melt inside the engine. I am now going to find a high temp hose so that this doesn't happen again.

          YICS tool

          Hey Larry,
Ken Talbot sent me a piece of VITON hose when I was making mine and it did not melt. Look for VITON high temp hose.

            Hey Harry,

You can also look at the Parts for Sale forum, the STICKY parts by members, the last page shows the YICS eliminator tool, install once, and you don't have to worry about making/using that tool again! Makes future synching and tuning easier too! YMMV!

Hey Bigfoot - I've still got lots of high-temp tubing left. Send me a PM with your mailing address and I'll send some your way.

                New YICS Eliminators!

                Hello everyone,

I have re-designed the YICS Eliminator and the new version will fit any of the XJ550, 650, 750, 900 and 1100 models that have the YICS system. As always the YICS Eliminator comes complete with the Viton O-rings already in place and ready to be installed. They can be purchased through me directly (more info at the link below in my signature line) or on eBay under the name bent-biker. You can also send me a PM.

                Thanks,
                Larry

Thanks for the replies guys and Ken I will send you a pm in a few minutes. The tool I built worked great and will once again once the rubber is replaced with high-temp. What is the advantage of blocking the YICS permanently?

It is nice to finally have the carbs sync'd. I thought she was running good before but now it purr's at idle and the throttle response is better than it ever has been. Looking forward to doing some hardcore riding on some of those great Arkansas roads.
