It depends on the setup of the bike in question. Are the carbs from an '82 XJ, because the last year of the XS was in 81. I have ran 70's carbs on my bike with the same basic setup (2 size increase in mains) relative to stock and had success. However, I don't have a 70's bike to try it in the other direction.
