There is a vent hose? just behind the starter, and next to the middle gear housing.. It is about an 1/8" ID hose... After lastnights 120mile ride, i have oil spots on the exaust pipes and inner fender. Any ideas of what is causeing oil to come out of this tube? TIA

That would be the middle gear vent I think, i was just looking at some pictures I had taken. (too lazy to go look at bike!) The larger hose connects to the air cleaner (like 1/2 inch ID) is the crank case vent. Too much oil in middle gear? Just fill it? Get some water in there somehow?

good call Sid... Just unlazied myself and dug out my spare engine cases, that is the vent for the middle gear case.. This is the first time that I have seen it do this. normally with the trips around town it does not do this, but this was sustained 4500rpm for an hour. going now to check the fluid, last time i filled it, i used what the book calls for 12 oz of 90w. I don't have the measuring stick. but if anyone can measure the the stick from the top flange to the lines, i will make my own. would be nice to have the measurment for the final drive too...
ThanksShawn

well the level was about 1/4 too high. and it was not pretty looking. so changing the 90w and going for a nother 120 mile ride tomorrow..lol i like having new tires instead of slick tires, means i can go longer distance away from home
